Champions League Semi-Finalists Decided: Spanish and German Giants Fall Through. Who Makes It?

The final four teams of the UEFA Champions League 2024–25 have officially been confirmed. Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and PSG will be fighting in the semi-finals to book a spot in the final in Munich. All four quarter-final matches were dramatic ones, to say the least.

The last four teams standing fought tooth and nail, sailing through one drama after another throughout both legs to seal their spot in the semis. The semi-final first legs will be played on April 29, while the second legs is scheduled to be played a week later on May 6.

Real Madrid vs Arsenal (Aggregate: 1-5)

Arsenal powered into the semi-finals after defeating Real Madrid 5–1 on aggregate. They gained momentum In the first leg itself at home. The Gunners delivered a stunning 3–0 win in that game. Standout free-kick brace from Declan Rice and a goal from Mikel Merino sealed the deal for them.

The second leg in Madrid saw a lot of drama throughout the match. Bukayo Saka missed a penalty in the first 15 minutes of the match. However, he made up for it with a goal in the second half. Although Vinicius Junior equalized, Gabriel Martinelli’s late strike sealed a 2–1 away win for the Gunners at Madrid’s home.

Inter Milan vs Bayern Munich (Aggregate: 4-3)

Inter Milan held off Bayern Munich to clinch a 4–3 aggregate win. They secured the first leg in Bayern’s home with a 2–1 win. This was not only a huge feat, but also a huge advantage being the return leg set to be held at San Siro, their own home.

Back at San Siro, Harry Kane gave Bayern hope with an early goal. However, Inter replied twice through goals from Lautaro Martínez and Benjamin Pavard. Eric Dier equalized late for the visitors. However, Inter did enough to move into the final four.

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona (Aggregate: 3-5)

Barcelona held on against Borussia Dortmund to progress with a 5–3 aggregate over two legs. The Catalan side were absolutely dominant in the first leg, winning by a 4–0 margin. This was courtesy of goals from Lewandowski, Raphinha, and a brace by Pedri.

In the return leg, Barcelona seemed lost and Dortmund responded with a 3–1 win. Even though an own goal from Dortmund’s Bensebaini disrupted at a point. However, A hat-trick from Guirassy highlighted the day for the home side. Even so, the comeback wasn’t enough to overturn the first-leg deficit.

Aston Villa vs Paris Saint-Germain (Aggregate: 4-5)

PSG edged out Aston Villa 5–4 on aggregate in a thrilling quarter-final. In the first leg in Paris, the hosts claimed a 3–1 win through goals from Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Nuno Mended in the first leg.

Travelling to Villa’s home on this Wednesday for the return leg, they pushed Aston Villa. Even so they lost the game, 3–2 with goals from Tielemans, McGinn, and Konsa. Despite their spirited display, the aggregate score favored PSG, who now face Arsenal in the semis.
