Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner closed out 2025 as the clear leaders of men’s tennis, and their grip on the sport appears just as firm heading into 2026. And more specifically, the Australian Open. After meeting six times this year, with Alcaraz holding a four-to-two edge, they will collide again on January 10, 2026, in an exhibition in South Korea, ahead of their eventual meeting in Melbourne.

Now, both spoke with Tennis Korea about the meaning and weight of their growing rivalry. Alcaraz sees Sinner as a near-complete player, noting, “Jannik is a player virtually without weaknesses. He is powerful in attack, and his defense is incredibly fast and stable.” Sinner returns the respect, calling Alcaraz “one of the best players on the current circuit, perhaps even the best.”

Alcaraz welcomed the comparisons that now follow every chapter of their duel. He said, “This comparison is a real honor for me as a player. I think it means a lot that tennis fans feel the same when watching our matches. Rivalries in sports are a powerful element that fuels fans’ interest, and I was also very inspired by the rivalry between Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer during my childhood.”

Their many high-pressure battles have shaped both players, and Alcaraz believes that trend is only beginning. “Jannik and I have faced each other on many big stages and played intense matches. We have met in several Grand Slam finals, and I believe we make each other stronger. With a long career ahead, I hope we can continue this positive rivalry that will help us grow together.” He also mentioned, “Playing well against him is not enough.”

Sinner shares that sentiment and views their dynamic as a continuation of tennis tradition. He said, “Rivalries are a fundamental part of our sport. In their time, there were great rivalries between Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, and that trend has continued for generations.”
