Cardinals Seahawks Rivalry – Who Holds the Edge in Overall Head to Head?

Devavrat Kulkarni

The 2-1 Cardinals take on the 2-1 Seahawks on Thursday Night Football tonight!

It is nearly time for week 4 in the NFL, and to kick things off, we have the Arizona Cardinals taking on their divisional opponents and rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. Tonight’s Cardinals vs Seahawks matchup is a prime-time game on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football slate.

The Cardinals, who are 2-1, began their season with wins over the Saints and the Panthers, but were tested during their narrow loss to the 49ers in week 3. Seattle, on the other hand, started their 2025-26 campaign with a week 1 loss to San Francisco but has won against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints, with their offense seeing improvement.

How Old Is the Arizona Cardinals – Seattle Seahawks Rivalry?

The rivalry between the Cardinals and the Seahawks is one of the newer rivalries in the league. The rivalry only started taking shape in the early 2000s because previously, both teams used to play in different divisions.

In 2002, the NFL realigned all the divisions, which saw the Cardinals and Seahawks become part of the NFC West along with the 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. Previously, the two teams had played one another only a few times through inter-conference matches.

Prior to 2002, the Cardinals were part of the NFC East, while the Seahawks were in the AFC West, meaning both teams were in different conferences altogether.

Why Are the Cardinals and Seahawks Rivals?

The Cardinals and Seahawks rivalry started to form after the NFL realignment. That is when these two teams started meeting twice every season, bringing out an intense atmosphere during their games and between the fans as well.

The initial few years of the rivalry were more or less balanced as both teams won and lost regularly against one another. In fact, from 2002 to 2011, the teams split their 16 meetings, going 8-8.

The rivalry then started to become more intense after the Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson at quarterback in 2012. The Seahawks held a slight edge in their fight for divisional supremacy, and their 2014 Super Bowl victory still gives them bragging rights over the Cardinals.

Cardinals vs Seahawks Head-to-Head Record for Regular Season

To date, the Cardinals and the Seahawks have met a total of 52 times, with the Seahawks holding a 29–22–1 overall lead. At the moment, Seattle is on a 7-game winning streak dating back to the 2021 season.

The last time these two teams met was on 9th December 2024. Geno Smith led the Seahawks under center, finishing with 233 passing yards and a touchdown, while running back Zach Charbonnet had a big game, rushing for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 30-18 Seahawks win.

Tonight will be yet another chapter in this rivalry as both teams look to assert their dominance over one another. Additionally, the winner of the game will move to 3-1 on the season, which is surely a good spot to be in.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
