Brandon Aiyuk Injury Update – 49ers GM John Lynch Shares Grim Update As Brandon Aiyuk Return Date Seems Uncertain!

Brandon Aiyuk remains sidelined as 49ers await his full recovery

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains far from making his return, according to general manager John Lynch, who revealed Thursday that the 27-year-old is still recovering from the severe knee injury suffered in Week 7 of the 2024 season. Lynch made it clear that while Aiyuk has avoided setbacks, the injury extended beyond the ACL, pushing back any realistic timetable for a comeback.

“No setbacks” – Lynch Provides Update for Aiyuk

Speaking on KNBR, Lynch explained the complexity of Aiyuk’s recovery, describing it as “a fairly significant injury” with multiple elements of the knee involved. “No setbacks,” Lynch said. “There’s different levels when you do these ACLs, and Brandon had a fairly significant injury, involving a lot of different things in his knee. He’s a really gifted athlete. He’s a very hard worker. And so when you combine that, you tend to come back at a good clip.”

Lynch emphasized the 49ers will be cautious despite Aiyuk’s determination, “There’s no absolutes on these things. So he’s got to continue to hit markers, but he is tracking well. He’s working hard. And we’ll just continue to do that. We’ll be a better team when Brandon is out there. And so we look forward to that day, but you know, it’s not close.”

Aiyuk, who signed a contract extension last offseason after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, struggled prior to his injury in 2024. Following a drawn-out holdout, his production dipped significantly, catching just 25 of 47 targets for 374 yards and no touchdowns before going down in Week 7.

The 49ers are already dealing with a wave of injuries beyond Aiyuk. Star tight end George Kittle landed on injured reserve after a Week 1 hamstring issue, while quarterback Brock Purdy has missed the last two games with a toe injury. Though he could return this weekend against the Jaguars. In their absence, rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall has emerged as a bright spot, leading the team with 281 receiving yards and ranking second with 16 receptions.

Brandon Aiyuk Contract With the San Francisco 49ers

Aiyuk signed a four-year (2024-2028) contract extension, which highlights the team’s long-term commitment to Aiyuk despite his current absence. The contract is worth $120 million in a deal with the 49ers, including a $23 million signing bonus and $76 million guaranteed, with an average annual salary of $30 million.

In 2025, he is set to earn a base salary of $1.17 million, a signing bonus of $22.85 million, and a workout bonus of $6,300, while carrying a cap hit of $9.92 million and a dead cap value of $65 million. According to Spotrac, his total career earnings stand at $61.43 million, with $24.78 million already earned as of 2025.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
