Can Patrick Mahomes and The Chiefs Do The Unprecedented And Achieve The Three-Peat?

Before we start off on the Chiefs, let’s look at a famous quote given to us by a former head coach. Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the Patriots, once said “Just do your job.” He said that going against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007 divisional round. Guess what the Chiefs did to win against the Bills? Every single one of the players, just did their jobs. Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Chris Jones, Kareem Hunt, and Xavier Worthy just did their jobs.

That mantra is something that the Chiefs have understood thoroughly. Every single season we see many teams challenge the Chiefs. They all fail because someone from the other team fails to do what he’s supposed to. In the AFC Championship round, Dalton Kincaid failed to do his job for the Bills and here we are. The Chiefs are now going to play in the Super Bowl, three times in a row.

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to their 5th Super Bowl in 6 years.

And their dynasty run brings to mind the most recent NBA dynasty: the Golden State Warriors.

The Chiefs have only lost 2 games in the entirety of the 2024 season so far. They will now face a familiar opponent that they’ve defeated earlier in Super Bowl LVII, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are very hungry to win this season and cement their legacy as the greatest dynasty in NFL history. They have won the last two Super Bowl championships, against the Eagles and 49ers, and are now looking at their third straight victory. So the question remains.

So, can the Chiefs actual pull it off?

What Record Did The Chiefs Set After Winning The AFC Conference Title?

The Kansas City Chiefs are the first team to reach the Super Bowl after winning two-straight championships. No other team, in the history of the NFL, has ever reached the Super Bowl after winning back-to-back championships. However, there are some teams that have come close and they are;

The Green Bay Packers came close to winning their third straight title but missed the 1968 playoffs entirely.

The Miami Dolphins lost to the Oakland Raiders in the divisional round in 1974 after winning back-to-back in 1973 and 1972.

The Steelers had two chances to three-peat but ended up losing them both. Once in 1976 losing to the Raiders and another in 1980 where they missed the playoffs.

The 49ers came close to winning it for the third straight time in 1990 but also came up short after losing to the Giants.

The Cowboys lost to the 49ers in 1994 at the conference championship round. They were the Super Bowl champs in the year prior and 1992.

The Broncos missed the playoffs entirely in 1999 but had won two championships prior in 1998 and 1997.

Lastly, the Patriots, who was led by Tom Brady. They won two straight in 2003 and 2004 but lost to the Broncos in 2005 at the divisional round.

If the Chiefs win the Super Bowl title it will be their third straight Super Bowl championship. Winning their third straight will put the Chiefs at the top of the top, in terms of dynasties. Even the greatest of quarterbacks and coaches have never achieved this feat.

The Super Bowl LIX is on February 9th and it will take place in Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The home of the New Orleans Saints.
