Calgary Flames Playoff Chances- Do the Calgary Flames have a chance to qualify for the postseason?

Anamika Shrivastava

What the Flames must do—and what needs to happen around the league—for a postseason push to come true.

The Calgary Flames find themselves walking a razor-thin line as the 2025 NHL regular season winds down. With just two games left on their schedule, the Flames are clinging to fading playoff hopes in a tightly contested Western Conference race. Their recent surge has kept the dream alive, but the path to the postseason is no longer entirely in their control. Now, it’s a high-stakes combination of must-win matchups and scoreboard watching as Calgary battles to keep their season alive.

Calgary Flames Playoff Chances

The Calgary Flames remain in contention for a playoff spot, but their path to the postseason is narrow and challenging. With 92 points and two games remaining, they trail the St. Louis Blues, who hold the final Western Conference wild-card spot with 94 points. The Flames’ remaining schedule includes matchups against the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings.

To secure a playoff berth, the Flames likely need to win both of their remaining games. However, even with two victories, their fate isn’t entirely in their hands. They must also rely on the Blues losing their final game against the Utah Hockey Club.

Statistical models reflect the uphill battle the Flames face. BetMGM gives them a 10.2% chance of making the playoffs, and Other Hockey-Reference estimates their odds between 11% and 12%. Despite the daunting odds, the Flames have shown resilience. They’ve gone 8-2-3 in their last 13 games, including a recent 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. Players like Yegor Sharangovich and goaltender Dustin Wolf have been instrumental in keeping the team’s playoff hopes alive; while the Flames’ chances are slim, they are not eliminated. Winning their remaining games is crucial, but they also need favorable outcomes in other matchups to clinch a playoff spot.

What needs to happen for the Calgary Flames to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

The Calgary Flames are still clinging to hope for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the path ahead is tight and demanding. With only two games left on the schedule, the Flames must bring their best against two tough opponents: the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings.

To keep their playoff dreams alive, the Flames need to win both of these games. Nothing less than four points will do. But even if they manage a perfect finish, their postseason hopes will also depend on the results of teams just ahead of them in the standings.

Most importantly, they’ll be watching the outcomes of the final games for the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild. The Flames need both teams to falter to leap ahead in the standings. Tiebreakers do not favor Calgary, so surpassing them in total points is the only way in. The Flames have done well to stay in the mix late into the season, riding solid performances from players like Yegor Sharangovich and Dustin Wolf. The momentum is there; the question is whether everything else will fall into place.
