Caitlin Clark’s Comeback on Hold? Stephanie White’s Latest Update Worries Fever Fans

Garima Ranawat

Clark missed her 19th straight game as the Fever fell to Mercury 85-79 on Tuesday.

The Indiana Fever were without their star guard Caitlin Clark for her 19th straight game as they locked horns with the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, September 2. Fans want to see her lace up for the team considering the Fever only have three regular season games remaining in the 2025 WNBA season. However, as per head coach Stephanie White’s update, fans might have to wait for a longer period to see their favorite star make a comeback on the court.

Sharing an update on the 2024 ROTY’s injury, White said that Clark hasn’t done any practices with contact yet. Following shootaround on Tuesday, the 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year was asked if Clark has been doing contact in practices during the Fever road’s trip. However, contrary to what fans were expecting, said, “No, she’s just been doing shooting and mostly individual stuff.”

Notably, Clark has been out with a right groin injury since July 16. She started doing limited activities with the team ahead of the clash against the Minnesota Lynx on August 22. The updates later suggested that she started engaging in non-contact shooting drills as well as 5-on-0 full-court runs in the shootarounds before the games. However, the Iowa alum hasn’t been able to do more than that.

Stephanie White Talks About Clark’s Potential Return

It’s been over two months that Caitlin Clark’s fans have been receiving vague updates on her recovery. Considering that the regular season is almost over and playoffs are around the corner, fans are expecting the franchise to provide them with clarity. They were optimistic that it wouldn’t take Clark much time to suit up again, but considering that the regular season has reached its end, the public has started to lose hope.

Once again, White came up with a response that sounded much like the one fans have heard over and over again. When asked if the 23-year-old could return with just one week remaining in the regular season, she said, “That’s the hope! She’s working as hard as she can to make sure she is coming back or capable of coming back.” Not only this, but her concluding remark indicated that the Fever is focused on their star player’s long-term health. White stated, “I think the long-term viewpoint of her health and wellness is the most important thing.”

While the update that Clark is practicing again suggests that there is a possibility of her return before the year ends. However, the problem is there are not many opportunities to ramp up her preparation. The two-time WNBA All-Star has had a frustrating campaign this season, considering she had to battle multiple injuries, which limited her appearances to only 13 games.
