Bronny James Eyes Drew League 2025 Appearance As Lakers Plan Big Offseason Role For Him

LeBron once dominated the Drew League. Now, his son Bronny James might take that same summer path

Bronny James is making full use of this offseason window to grow his game before the next NBA season begins. He already featured in the Las Vegas Summer League and might now take part in the 2025 Drew League tournament.

The Drew League commissioner hinted Bronny James may participate in one of the upcoming weekend’s scheduled fixtures. Dino Smiley said, “I’ve heard Bronny [James], but nothing clear on that yet. I heard Bronny might play. But nothing concrete. Earlier in the summer, there was talk about Dalton Knecht and Cam Christie playing.”

Lakers management are making every effort to ensure Bronny James gets consistent developmental opportunities. The 20-year-old is reportedly set for more regular Lakers minutes during the upcoming 2025 NBA season. Coach JJ Redick plans to assign James a more defined and consistent rotational role.

Bronny James showed clear improvement during NBA Summer League, averaging 14.2 points, 3.8 assists, and shooting an efficient 47.6 percent from the field. The Drew League 2025 weekend features 12 games on the schedule, after which the tournament will enter its playoff phase with more competitive fixtures expected.

The Drew League has been known to draw some big names across the history of pro basketball. The likes of Kobe Bryant, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Trae Young are some of the names that once played in the summer tournament.

Bronny’s father, LeBron James, returned to the Drew League in 2022 after an 11-year break from the pro-am circuit. James teamed up with DeMar DeRozan during the 2022 offseason, scoring 42 points and grabbing 16 rebounds for MMV Cheaters in a 104-102 win against Black Pearl Elite.
