Brighton vs Aston Villa Premier League Fixture – Injury News, Match Preview and Predicted Line-Ups

Mayur Dedwal

Aston Villa has won five games to Brighton’s two in their past 10 meetings.

After an exciting 2-2 draw in December, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa will meet again on Thursday. Aston Villa, which has been on a winning streak, will be aiming to climb the table with another win.

Brighton exited the FA Cup after losing in a penalty shootout to Nottingham Forest. It was their first defeat since Forest beat them 7-0 in February. They will look to bounce back in the Premier League as they trail fourth-placed Chelsea by two points.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa secured a spot in the Champions League quarterfinals after beating Club Brugge. They will have an opportunity to overtake Brighton in the standings as they trail by just two points.

This is a crucial contest given the stakes in the Premier League table. If Villa secures an away win, Brighton could lose their seventh spot to them. However, a Brighton win would increase their chances of securing European qualification this season.

Brighton Injury News

Brighton has had a long list of injuries throughout the season. Georginio Rutter and Adam Webster both sustained injuries in the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Manager Fabian Hurzeler does not expect either to be available anytime soon. Addressing their injuries in the pre-match conference Huzeler said

“Both injuries I can say don’t look great. We have to add them to our injury list. Georginio has an ankle injury and Adam has a muscle injury. It’s possible [that they will be out for the season].

“I will never complain about the injuries. Georgi and Adam were in great shape, but that’s football. We have to deal with it. We have had to deal with the injuries this season.“

The German has expressed strong belief in his squad despite the injury struggles. Huzeler also mentioned this could be an opportunity for players like Brajan Gruda and Matt O’Riley who are expected to start or make an appearance against Aston Villa.

O’Riley is expected to start ahead of Rutter against Aston Villa following the Frenchman’s injury. The Seagulls will be expected to retain their 4-2-3-1 formation with straight swaps on injuries.

Brighton Predicted Lineup

Brighton Predicted XI: Verbruggen; Hinshelwood, Van Hecke, Dunk, and Estupinan in defense; Baleba, Gomez; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck.

Aston Villa Injury News

Aston Villa reported that Ross Barkley is back to full training training. However, Leon Bailey will be unavailable for the game against Brighton. After suffering an injury during the International Break, the Jamaican could be out till next week.

Speaking in the pre-match conference, Manager Unai Emery addressed the injury situation by saying

“Barkley was training with the group yesterday. Bailey had a hard kick, I don’t think he will train this afternoon and it will be difficult to play the match,” before later confirming he will be unavailable.

“Of course, always we are at risk of getting some more injured players, but now we are recovering every player, more or less.”

Aston Villa played a 3-5-2 against Preston switching from their normal 4-2-3-1. With the injury situation of Bailey, the Spanish manager might give Boubacar Kamara and Morgan Rogers a nod from the right side against Brighton.

Emery also focused on being at the stage where he will need all his players. Villa will have some big games coming in April as they face PSG in the Champions League along with fighting for European spot in the Premier League.

Aston Villa Predicted Lineup

Aston Villa Predicted XI: Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; Onana and Tielemans; Rogers, Asensio, and Rashford; Watkins.
