Boston Celtics stunned the NBA with biggest comeback of the season vs Sixers

The Boston Celtics recorded a stunning 118-110 comeback win against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday, Feb. 2. The game saw Jayson Tatum scoring 35 points to help the side record third straight and 35th overall win of the season.

The Celtics, sitting in the second spot of the Eastern Conference standings, stunned the NBA world and showcased why they are one of the best! The Celtics played their one of the worst first halves of the season and were 26 points behind in the late third quarter.

However, the Celtics turned things around to outscore the counterparts 38-16 in the final quarter, and eventually recorded the biggest comeback of the season. Notably, this was the first time the Celtics overcame such a significant deficit since their 32-point trail to defeat the Spurs in April 2021.

Tatum finished the game with 35 points on 13-of-20 shooting and recorded a season-high 11 assists and seven rebounds. He was backed by Jaylen Brown’s 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

On the 76ers’ side, Tyrese Maxey came up with a solid 34-point performance, with three boards and six helpers. Guerschon Yabusele chipped in 21 points with six rebounds and Kelly Oubre Jr. had 18 points to add.

“Proud to coach them in this game”- Joe Mazzulla as Celtics third-largest comeback in 20 years

As the Celtics recorded one of their most significant win, their coach Joe Mazzulla expressed his delight over the victory and said that he was “Proud to coach them in this game.”

Speaking about his side’s gameplay, Mazzulla said, “In the first half, we weren’t making shots, and it was impacting some of our defensive details.”

“In the second half, we played through it and chipped away at it. We got stops. We got out. We were able to run. … I just liked our guys’ mindset. I was kind of studying their body language, and it looked like they really, really wanted to do what it took to win. So I stuck with them, and they delivered,” he concluded.

The Celtics are set to lock horns against the Eastern leaders Cavaliers whereas, the Sixers meet the Mavericks on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
