Blue Jackets Recall Forward Mikael Pyyhtia on Emergency Basis

Columbus Strengthens Forward Depth with Young Talent Ahead of Outdoor Game

The Columbus Blue Jackets are making roster moves ahead of their highly anticipated Stadium Series game, calling up forward Mikael Pyyhtia from their AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters. With the outdoor showdown just around the corner, Columbus is looking to add depth and defensive stability to their lineup.

Pyyhtia is expected to take over Joseph Labate’s spot on the fourth line’s right wing, bringing more NHL experience to the unit. Despite spending some time shuffling between the AHL and NHL this season, the Finnish forward has largely remained with the Blue Jackets, contributing four goals and three assists in 46 games. Additionally, he has tallied one goal and five assists in 10 AHL appearances.

While his offensive numbers may not be eye-catching, Pyyhtia has carved out a role with his defensive responsibility. Among Blue Jackets forwards with at least 30 games played, he ranks sixth in on-ice save percentage at 90.0% and is heavily relied upon in defensive zone starts, with a rate of 56.9%. His willingness to block shots and increased physicality have made him a reliable presence on the bottom lines.

At just 23 years old, Pyyhtia still has areas of his game to refine, particularly on the offensive end. However, his defensive reliability and work ethic have made him a valuable asset to Columbus. As he prepares for his first-ever outdoor NHL game, the Blue Jackets will be counting on his steady play to make an impact in this special matchup.

I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
