This will be their first-ever meeting on tour, adding a layer of thrill to the clash. Shelton has made some deep runs this season but has struggled with consistency, while Tien started the year strong but has since cooled off. Shelton’s season has been a roller coaster, with no title wins but notable deep runs. Making a semifinal at the Australian Open, where he was stopped by Jannik Sinner, and a fourth-round showing at Roland Garros. He also reached the quarters in Indian Wells, the semis in Stuttgart, and the final in Munich, falling to Alexander Zverev in both the latter events.

Statistically, Shelton has fired 288 aces, winning 74% of first-serve points and converting 43% of break chances. However, his return game remains a weakness, with just 26% of first-serve return points won.

Tien began the year on a high, reaching the fourth round in Melbourne and later the quarterfinals in Acapulco, where he was beaten by Tomas Machac. Since then, though, the 19-year-old hasn’t progressed past the second round at any event.

He’s hit 83 aces this season with a 67% first-serve win rate and a 39% break point conversion from 149 chances. Like Shelton, his return game needs work, managing just 27% first-serve return points won.
