Real Madrid fullback Lucas Vázquez departed the Spanish capital after winning 23 trophies with the club in over a decade. Being linked to several clubs, Vazquez has reportedly joined Bayer Leverkusen on a two-year deal till 2027. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that, the deal was finalised as a free transfer, with Vazquez having completed a medical examination in secret.
After a memorable career at the Los Blancos, the Spaniard will join Erik Ten Hag’s in building side. Making him a valuable addition on both fronts given Vazquez’s playing nature, he will be expected to help the right side of the attack after Jermie Frimpong’s departure.

Vazquez has chosen Bayer Leverkusen over clubs like Besiktas, Milan, Juventus and Fenerbahçe with reported interest. Leverkusen under Erik ten Hag employs a 3-4-2-1 formation, which emphasises fluidity, width, and attacking contributions from wing-backs.
Making Vazquez an ideal candidate to shape the team’s attack, his experience and versatility an important factors in his addition. His experience as a right-back under multiple managers at Real Madrid ensures he can handle defensive duties along with the efficiency going forward.
Known for his high work rate and experience at the highest level, Ten Hag needs a character like Vazquez after multiple departures. Additionally, Vazquez also has a strong chance of joining the leadership group or being a vice-captain.

Vazquez is one of the most decorated players in football with five Champions League titles, four La Liga titles, and three FIFA Club World Cups. Moreover, The 34-year-old made over 400 competitive appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 38 goals and providing 73 assists.
Starting a new chapter in the Bundesliga, Vazquez will be joining a young side competing against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. Finishing second in the previous season, Ten Hag and Vazquez will have rich shoes to fill as the campaign goes on.
