Barcelona Receive a Key Champions League Boost Ahead of Their San Siro Clash, but What’s the Twist in the Tale?
Barcelona have received a timely boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan. They got their star striker Robert Lewandowski back to full training just two days before the clash at San Siro. The Polish forward had been sidelined with a thigh injury and missed a few matches.
He now seems fit but he could still have to come off the bench in the match. Even that could help the Catalan side as the game is shaping up to be a season-defining night for them. Lewandowski suffered a semitendinosus strain in his left thigh during Barca’s dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Celta Vigo on April 19.

The setback forced him to miss the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. He also missed the 3-3 thriller in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter at Montjuic. Following the injury, Barca had kept the timeline of his recovery vague.
The club’s medical team had been evaluating his progress on a day-by-day basis. However, it seems that the 35-year-old’s professionalism and dedication have paid off. According to Mundo Deportivo, his quick recovery has been described internally as “miraculous” which is certainly set to benefit Barcelona.

Coach Hansi Flick confirmed Lewandowski’s possible involvement during the press conference ahead of their last La Liga game against Real Valladolid, saying:
“It’s possible that he will return for the second leg against Inter. Robert is doing very well, and his recovery is progressing much better than we expected. We’ll have to see. He’s a great professional and always works hard to be at 100%.”
Lewandowski trained with the squad on Sunday and as per reports from Marca, he will travel to Italy. However, reportedly, Flick sees him as a game-changing substitute if required. Ferran Torres is expected to lead the line from the start. Ferran was even rested with this in mind during Barcelona’s recent La Liga outing against Real Valladolid.
Before the injury, Lewandowski was enjoying a phenomenal season. He has scored 40 goals across all competitions. This includes 25 goals in La Liga and 11 in the Champions League. Even though he’s been out injured, he still leads the race for the Pichichi Trophy and remains a pivotal figure in Barça’s attack.
The Champions League semi-final tie is currently finely poised at 3-3 from the first leg. With a Champions League final berth on the line, Lewandowski’s availability, even if for a brief cameo, could be the decisive factor Barcelona need in their pursuit of European glory.
