Avalanche Recall John Ludvig After Two-Week AHL Conditioning Loan

John Ludvig returns to the Colorado Avalanche following a two-week conditioning stint with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, recording one assist in five games.

Following a two-week stint in the American Hockey League with the Colorado Eagles, defenseman John Ludvig is set to rejoin the NHL. The Colorado Avalanche declared that they had brought Ludvig back from his conditioning loan to the NHL roster.

As per the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement, the regulations state that a team may assign a player through a standard conditioning loan for 14 straight days. This indicates that the Avalanche retained Ludvig in the AHL for the permitted period. Additionally, throughout his entire time with the AHL Eagles, Ludvig was included on the 23-man roster for the Avalanche and received his full NHL salary for the entirety of the loan.

Throughout his 14 days in Loveland, CO, Ludvig recorded one assist in five games for the Eagles and had a -3 rating. It’s quite similar to his performance in the NHL this season with the Avalanche, as he has recorded two assists in eight games and has a -4 rating.

Despite facing injury challenges this season, Colorado has performed effectively without Ludvig. If the organization decides to proceed with just seven defensemen on the active roster, it wouldn’t be unexpected for Ludvig to be placed on waivers in the coming week.

He might receive some interest from the team’s need for an additional minimum-salary defenseman on the NHL roster, but he will probably go unclaimed due to his performance over the past two years. This would ultimately be advantageous for Ludvig since the Avalanche might find it easier to call him up from the AHL if he is exempt from waivers for a few weeks.
