Every year, the Shanghai Masters is staged in the month of October – it is the only men’s 1000-level tournament that does not take place in Europe or North America. Having been founded in 2009, Rolex became the primary sponsor for the event one year later. There are 96 singles players who take part in the main draw, alongside 32 doubles pairs.
World No. 2 Jannik Sinner is the defending champion at the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters. He beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets to lift the trophy last year. Meanwhile in men’s doubles, Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic defeated Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 6-4 6-4 to be crowned the champions of China.

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will open his account in the Round of 64 against either Learner Tien or Miomir Kecmanovic. He could face Daniil Medvedev in the pre-quarterfinals, followed by Alex de Minaur, Alexander Zverev and then Jannik Sinner/Novak Djokovic. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev’s first real test could be in Round-3, where he is likely to face Alex Michelsen of USA. The other threats in his quarter are Lorenzo Musetti, Jakub Mensik and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have been placed in the bottom half of the draw. The Italian World No. 2 could run into Alexander Bublik in the Round of 16. A potentially mouth-watering quarterfinal encounter against Taylor Fritz is also on the cards. On the other hand, 24-time major winner Djokovic will face one of Marin Cilic or Corentin Moutet in the Round of 64. He arguably has the toughest path to glory – with Frances Tiafoe, Andrey Rublev/Flavio Cobolli, Casper Ruud/Ben Shelton and Jannik Sinner aiming to deny him an entry into the summit clash.
