Atletico Madrid Secure Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli on Five-Year Deal

Abhinav Goel

Atletico Madrid have signed Italian forward Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli on a five-year contract. The La Liga side officially confirmed the Italian international’s signing on Monday evening. The transfer is reportedly valued at around €26 million ($30.14m). Raspadori began his professional career with Sassuolo before joining Napoli on loan in 2022.

His debut season in Naples was a dream start as he helped secure the club Serie A title, a feat he repeated last season. In total, he made 88 league appearances for Napoli, scoring 13 goals. However, much of Raspadori’s game time with Napoli came from the bench. Last season, he scored six times in 26 Serie A matches for the champions.

Raspadori Becomes Atletico’s Seventh Summer Signing

Notably, Atletico finished third in La Liga last season and endured a trophyless campaign under long-time manager Diego Simeone. The Spanish giants fell short in the Champions League, Copa del Rey and Club World Cup. However, Atletico are aiming for a stronger showing this season with plenty of new signings.

Raspadori becomes Atletico’s seventh signing of the summer. The Italian joins Alex Baena, Johnny Cardoso, David Hancko, Thiago Almada, Matteo Ruggeri and Marc Pubill in bolstering Diego Simeone’s squad ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Atletico Madrid head into the new season in good spirits after a 2-0 pre-season win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

An experienced international player, Raspadori has netted nine goals in 40 appearances for Italy and was also a part of the Euro 2020-winning squad. Raspadori’s versatility and big-game pedigree are expected to add valuable depth to Atletico’s attacking options as they target silverware both domestically and in Europe.
