The women's singles semifinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek will be played on Thursday afternoon.
It will be a highly-anticipated clash between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek in the first semifinal of the 2025 Roland Garros. It’s a battle between a current world No. 1 and the former world No. 1. Sabalenka overcame the 8th-seeded, Qinwen Zheng in the quarterfinals, while Swiatek knockout out Elina Svitolina in straight sets to reach the 2025 French Open semifinals.
Aryna Sabalenka’s biggest clay-court matchup is here, and it won’t be easy for the Belarusian ace to counter the four-time Roland Garros champion, who is on a 26-match winning streak. Sabalenka came through a dream run of form this year, three titles and three runner-up finishes. She didn’t lose a set en route to the semifinal journey and took a revenge against Zheng in the quarterfinals with a straight-set victory.
Sabalenka also reached into the final of the Australian Open this year and lost to Maddison Keys. Furthermore, she has gone 13-2 in the semifinals since the start of 2024 and posted a 6-0 record in this year’s semifinal clashes without dropping a set.
On the other hand, Iga Swiatek, the clay queen is chasing her record fifth Roland Garros title this year. She is riding on a 26-match winning streak in the competition but lost all six semifinal matches this year, including the Cincinnati Open 2024 defeat against Sabalenka. During the fourth-round victory, the Polish ace proved why she is the champion player on the clay court.
Swiatek pulled off a comeback against Rybakina after going 1-6, 0-2 down. She has met world No. 1 players three times and the only victory came against Sabalenka in the 2023 WTA Finals. She holds the 8-4 lead over Sabalenka in the WTA H2H meetings.
