With Artem Zub's injury, the Senators look to strengthen their roster by targeting key players on the trade market.
As November comes to a close, the Ottawa Senators rank in the lower half of the league. Ottawa started the 2024-25 season with a refreshed outlook, aiming to make a playoff run. Nevertheless, their season has not begun perfectly this year. With Artem Zub sidelined due to injury, the team is considering making some changes.
Zub will be out for a long time due to a foot injury. This represents a significant loss to Ottawa’s defensive roster. Zub played on the top defensive pairing for the team while skating. The injury he sustained has resulted in a shortage of NHL-caliber players on defense. The team aims to make a difference in the upcoming weeks.

Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch reported that the Senators are actively boldly pursuing trades. Before Zub’s injury, Garrioch observed that they were already displaying aggressive behavior. With the top defenseman out of the lineup, GM Steve Staios is likely to increase his attempts to acquire a defenseman via trade.
It might not be possible for the Senators to find a replacement for Artem Zub in just one trade. There are definitely defensemen available who can step in and match his level of production. Yet, Ottawa might not be prepared to meet the cost required to obtain those players. They might not be inclined to fork out the money at this particular moment.
Since Zub is a right-handed defenseman, it would be logical to bring in another right-handed defender to fill his spot. There are trade possibilities for some intriguing names. The initial player is Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman David Jiricek.
Recent reports suggest that a Jiricek trade is on the verge of happening. Columbus is said to be looking for a young player who has not yet made a name for themselves in the NHL. This is a cost that the Senators might have to bear. Particularly for a player such as Jiricek who is seen as a better choice for Ottawa in the long run.
