Arsenal Set to Strengthen Defence with Cristhian Mosquera Transfer Talks

Gunners Target Valencia’s Young Star to Fortify Defence

Arsenal had a disappointing climax to the 2024/25 season. Finishing second in the Premier League and the exit from the final four in UCL, many would speculate that the injury to problems on the defensive end are one of the reasons.

Wanting to increase the depth of the defensive line, Arteta has now identified a Brazilian centre-back, Cristhian Mosquera as a possible recruit. Trying to combine the 20-year-old with William Saliba and Gabriel Maghalaes, Arsenal is reportedly set to pay around €30 million as per his current value.

Arsenal Target: Who is Cristhian Mosquera?

Mosquera has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of Valencia CF’s most promising talents. His journey with the club began in 2016 when he joined the Valencia Academy, where his exceptional potential was evident from an early age.

Mosquera played his first senior game in January 2022 in a Copa del Rey clash against Atletico Baleares. With an imposing height and strong frame, Mosquero is analysed as one who can play brave football from the back line.

Mosquera’s contract with Valencia expires in June 2026, leaving the club with a critical decision in the summer transfer window of 2025. With only one year remaining, Valencia risks losing him for a reduced fee or even for free if they fail to extend his contract.

Arteta who has had problems with consistency at the back is reported to be actively looking for a centre-back. With Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future secured, a centre-back would be an ideal recruit to increase their defensive depth.

The Spanish-born defender also possesses the skills to play as a full-back as he often fills in for Valencia. Having the versatility, Arteta would also be helped with shuffling his back line to reduce fatigue throughout the season.
