Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson Dismiss Tension Claims Amid Jets Benching Rumors

Tensions Between Aaron Rodgers and Jets Owner Woody Johnson May Be Overstated Amid Disappointing 3-8 Season

Rumors about tensions between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson persist, but may not be as serious as believed regarding the 3-8 team. They also dined together in New York City earlier this month.

“There has been ongoing communication between them, and both agree the season has been deeply disappointing—with Aaron playing through injuries and the team underperforming,”:  Johnson feels “Rodgers’ performance was holding the team back.” NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported this Sunday.

Although Rodgers is still the starting quarterback, numerous changes have occurred for the AFC East team.

This season, New York let go of head coach Robert Saleh and Douglas, as well as acquiring star wide receiver Davante Adams and sending wide receiver Mike Williams in a trade. It was hoped that Rodgers and Adams could regain some of their previous magic from their time at the Green Bay Packers.

However, the Jets have a record of 1-4 in the games that Adams has participated in this season. Things didn’t go as planned for the franchise that had high hopes at the start of the season amid a period where winning was the priority. In the end, Rodgers is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the league’s history, with an offensive lineup featuring Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall even before acquiring Adams.

Last season, New York’s defense ranked third in the league in yards allowed per game, showing that they had the necessary players on offense and defense to make it to the playoffs potentially.

Aaron Rodgers Allegedly Avoids Medical Scans Amid Fears of Jets Benching

The New York Jets have a week off, but the ongoing drama within the troubled organization has not stopped.

Reports suggest that Aaron Rodgers, who has been labeled as “banged up” for the last few months, has been declining medical scans provided by the Jets. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network reported that Rodgers has been reluctant to disclose the extent of his injuries because he is afraid of being taken out of the game.

The Jets are confused about Rodgers’ injuries because he is not sharing any information with them. It is currently uncertain whether Rodgers is aware of the details of his injuries.

It’s possible that the severity of these unknown injuries is what’s holding him back from performing at a higher level. After only four plays into the 2023 season, the 40-year-old suffered an Achilles injury, and upon returning, he has been consistently plagued by leg injuries. After the Jets’ Week 4 defeat to the Denver Broncos, he mentioned that his knee was slightly swollen.

Rapoport reported that Rodgers also suffered a “significant” hamstring injury during the game, which he chose to play through. One week later, he suffered a minor ankle sprain in a game against the Minnesota Vikings. In Week 7, Rodgers experienced another flare-up of his hamstring problem. He has endured all of these injuries while playing.

Playing despite several injuries might not be the most effective strategy for Rodgers to achieve that goal, but he may feel it’s his sole choice if he aims to be the starting quarterback in 2025.
