Thursday Night Football brings primetime stakes to Glendale, Arizona, where the Cardinals host the Seattle Seahawks at State Farm Stadium. Seattle enters riding a dominant seven-game win streak in the rivalry, including four straight in Glendale. As Eric Edholm of NFL.com noted, the loser tonight will fall to 0-2 in NFC West play, a mark that has historically made playoff hopes an uphill battle.

Seattle, after a 1-1 start, has rebounded in style. Back-to-back blowouts of the Steelers and Saints (44-13 combined) have propelled Mike Macdonald’s team to 2-1. Special teams and defense have shown improvement under the new coach, while quarterback Sam Darnold has quietly found rhythm. Wideout Zay Jones, concussed on the final play against San Francisco, won’t suit up, forcing the Cardinals to lean on Simi Fehoko and Xavier Weaver to fill the void. Rookie corner Will Johnson remains doubtful with a lingering groin injury, further stretching the secondary.

More worrisome is the offensive line, where multiple starters, like Paris Johnson Jr., Kelvin Beachum, Evan Brown, and Will Hernandez, are all questionable despite limited practice participation. Linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither (elbow) and corner Darren Hall (ankle) round out a long list of game-time calls.

Pro Bowlers Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love, both sidelined last week, are cleared and expected to start, instantly solidifying the back end of Mike Macdonald’s defense. The updates aren’t all positive, however. Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori is doubtful with an ankle issue, while running back Zach Charbonnet and pass rusher Boye Mafe both carry questionable tags.

Offensive line depth also takes a hit, with swing tackle Josh Jones ruled out and guard Anthony Bradford added midweek with a back concern. The overall picture appears to be complicated at this point with absences and returns, but then so are most matches.
