Anthony Davis Injury Update: What Happened to Dallas Mavericks Center? How Long will he be out for?

Garima Ranawat

Dallas Mavericks received a big blow ahead of game against the Detroit Pistons.

The Dallas Mavericks after a disappointing 2024-25 NBA season, were expecting to have a favorable campaign this season. However, contrary to expectations, the Mavericks got off to a poor start and lost two back-to-back games before registering their first of the campaign, against the Toronto Raptors. However, they have been dealing with inconsistency, currently tallying 2-3 in five games. While the Mavs were hoping to bounce back and keep adding more wins to their tally, Anthony Davis’ latest injury has seemingly crushed their hopes.

The ten-time NBA All-Star, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster deal from the Los Angeles Lakers last season, suffered a leg injury during Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers. Davis walked out of the game in the opening quarter, and didn’t return for the remainder of the game. The Mavericks later announced that he was held out for precautionary reasons. However, he underwent MRI scans, which further revealed that Davis has been diagnosed with a low-grade calf strain

How Long will Anthony Davis be Out for ?

According to the Dallas Mavericks, Davis will be out for the next two games, i.e. the game against the Detroit Pistons on November 1 and Houston Rockets on November 3. He will be re-evaluated after the road trip. However, Davis has traveled with the Mavs to Mexico City and attended practice ahead of Saturday’s game.

Davis’ injury comes as a big blow for the Mavericks, who were already dealing with a thin front court. Derek Lively II missed the last two games with a sprained knee, while Daniel Gafford sustained an ankle injury on the first day of the training and hasn’t laced up for the season yet. As for Davis, he dealt with a left adductor strain during his debut game with the Mavericks, which forced him to sit out for multiple weeks.

The latest injury left the officials and fans with a feeling that he got seriously hurt and would have to miss extended time. However, the fact that he has traveled with the team and participated in practice sessions indicates that it is not as serious as anticipated. However, Jason Kidd and GM Nico Harrison should pray for his fast recovery. It is because in case the strain lingers, it could not only sideline the big man for majority of the season, but also crumble the Mavericks’ renewed hopes that they had in the offseason.
