Angel Reese Opens Up on Being the Villain in Rivalry with Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are two popular faces in the WNBA. The duo will be the future superstars of the women’s basketball. Both made their debuts in 2024 and opened up a great rivalry in the league. Fans also highlighted his rivalry and it gets heated sometimes on social media. Meanwhile. Angel Reese has different perspective on the rivalry.

Angel Reese Gets Honest on Her Rivalry with Caitlin Clark, Wants to Grow WNBA

Angel Reese gave her honest answer on the rivalry with Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark. As per the Chicago Sky star, fans created the rivalry but she always takes this as a competition. She is fine with the hate she gets during the rivalry because she is here to grow women’s basketball.

“Social media is going to put two women against each other,” Angel said. “And I think it’s just being able to be something that is negative but also positive. I think it shines light on women’s basketball. So I’ll take that of being able to be the person that gets the hate, but I know that at the end of the day, I’m growing women’s basketball, and helping women’s basketball.”

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are rivals from their AAU days and then, the rivalry began properly in college basketball. The WNBA gave it a big fuel and fans showed love to this rivalry whenever Sky takes on Fever in the league. Both players faced each other for the first time in 2019 when Clark was playing for All low Attack. Angel Reese’ Team Takeover overcame Clark’s Attack 72-58. Indiana star scored 22 points in the loss.

During the same year, Takeover handed one more setback to Attack with a 57-47 win and Angel Reese charged her team with a double-double. Clark, who missed out this game, locked horns against Reese in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship, where Reese’s LSU Tigers overcame Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes. This game is also famous for Reese’s “You Can’t See Me” celebration.

In 2024, both players met in the Elite 8 of the 2024 NCAA tournament and Clark’s Hawkeyes complete the revenge. In same year, they drafted to the WNBA where the rivalry got bigger. Out of five WNBA meetings, Caitlin Clark was on the winning side four times.

“People don’t realize that at the end of the day, we’re human. You guys watch us, and knowing that, it’s just basketball. I promise you, it’s just basketball. I don’t have any hard feelings towards her. She doesn’t have any hard feelings towards me. But yeah, it gets crazy sometimes,” Reese added.

This year, both players involved in a drama on the court after Clark gave up a hard foul on Reese. The Indiana guard earned a flagrant foul 1, while Reese was whistled for a technical. Fans had their moments and such incident added fuel to this rivalry. Angel Reese’s Sky is out from the playoffs and Clark’s Fever is still fighting for it. It means, we won’t see any match between Fever and Sky this year. However, the rivalry will be continued.
