Andrey Rublev required three tiebreakers to wrap up the game in first round.
The 14th seed, Andrey Rublev will take on Lloyd Harris of South Africa in the Wimbledon championship second-round matchup. The Russian ace dispatched Laslo Djere in first-round with a four-set victory. Harris, on the other side, overcame Zizou Bergs in the opening round. It should be a cracking contest and Rublev would look to cross the line amid Wimbledon’s ongoing chaos with major upsets.

Andrey Rublev had a tough victory in the first round as he required three tiebreakers to wrap up the game following a 6-0 hammering in the first set. The Russian moved out of the top-10 due to inconsistent run in 2025 but now, he has the great opportunity to go deep in the championship. The early upsets in the men’s singles event will change the scenarios. He reached the quarterfinals in 2023 but failed to cross the mark again in any Grand Slam. On grass, he went 4-1 this year and a good draw will help him to improve the record and ranking.
This is Andrey Rublev like you’ve never seen him before. It’s not just tennis, it’s personal.

Lloyd Harris can take inspiration from heroes of the fist-round matchups where top seeds were outclassed. The South African ace defeated Zizou Bergs with a four-set victory. He earlier faced Rublev at Roland Garros few weeks ago and pushed the Russian ace to four sets. Harris reached Wimbledon’s second round for the third time this year and showed determination against the top seed players in the past, including a five-set thriller against Shelton last year.

Andrey Rublev needed three tie-breakers to counter his opposition in the opening round but he look more composed player than Lloyd Harris. However, the South African takes edge on slower surfaces and he will try to exploit Rublev through explosive serve-plus-forehand game. Harris pushed the Russian star to four sets at Roland Garros 2025 and he can do the same at Wimbledon. It requires mental strength for both players in the Wimbledon where almost every game is going towards a tight finish.
