Anisimova Stuns Gauff to End Title Defense

Anisimova delivered a statement performance under the Beijing lights, dispatching reigning champion Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in just 58 minutes. The third seed was razor-sharp from the opening serve, breaking Gauff five times and dictating with deep, fearless groundstrokes. What was billed as a clash between America’s brightest young stars turned into a masterclass.

Gauff, who entered the semifinal in commanding form, never found her rhythm. Anisimova raced to a 5-0 lead in both sets, allowing only brief resistance when Gauff managed a late hold and break to avoid the bagel. But every flicker of momentum was snuffed out by Anisimova’s precision and composure. The win improved her head-to-head record over Gauff to 2-1 and made her just the third American woman, after Serena Williams and Gauff herself, to reach a China Open final.

It also capped a remarkable run that’s seen Anisimova take down three of the sport’s biggest names being Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and now Gauff, all within one season. For a player who’s battled injury and inconsistency in recent years, this Beijing surge marks a strong resurgence.

Noskova Outlasts Pegula in Breakthrough Win

Earlier in the day, Czech rising star Linda Noskova pulled off the biggest win of her young career, outdueling fifth seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6). In a tense, back-and-forth encounter that stretched over two hours, Noskova showed composure beyond her years, firing eight aces and holding her nerve in a deciding-set tiebreak to seal the victory.

Statistically, the match was almost dead even, with Pegula winning 48.4% of total points to Noskova’s 51.6% but the Czech’s aggression on key points made the difference. Noskova converted four of ten break opportunities and saved six of the nine she faced, maintaining pressure through crisp baseline exchanges and well-timed first serves.

The win makes Noskova the youngest Czech to reach a WTA 1000 final since the format’s introduction in 2009. Pegula had the finish line in sight, three match points to seal it, but Noskova refused to blink. The young Czech dug in and dragged the contest into a decisive tiebreak. Even then, Pegula twice held the upper hand at 3-1 and 5-4, only to watch it slip as Noskova surged late to close out the set 7-6. It was a missed window for Pegula and an opening for both Noskova and Anisimova.
