While Errani managed to capture the mixed doubles championship alongside Vavassori, this combination lost out in the semifinals in women’s doubles. Miyu Kato and Fanny Stollar have caused two major upsets en route to the summit clash in Beijing. In Round-2, they overcame reigning Wimbledon champions Kudermetova/Mertens in a thrilling three-set tussle. Coming to the quarterfinals, the supremely experienced No. 7 seeds Babos/Stefani fell prey to Kato and Stollar. Unfortunately, a walkover meant that the pairing entered the final without having to play.
