The New Orleans Saints are mired in a dismal 1-4 start to the 2025-26 NFL season, their lone victory being a coming against the New York Giants in Week 5. Alvin Kamara, the Saints’ 9th year running back, has been a bright spot in this gloomy start, though his production has dipped from past few seasons. Through five games, the 30-year old has rushed 73 times for 283 yards and a touchdown, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. As a receiver, he’s hauled in 17-21 targets for 77 yards with no scores, posting a catch percentage of 81.0 but just 15.4 yards per game. Overall, Kamara’s tallied 360 scrimmage yards on 90 touches, with one fumble putting stain on his efforts. Despite the modest numbers, his dual-threat reliability remains a cornerstone for a struggling run game.

Kamara Trade Buzz Fizzles as Saints Hold Firm

Given their horrible position, the Saints are viewed as prime sellers before the deadline, but not every asset is available. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that multiple teams inquired about acquiring Kamara, the five-time Pro Bowler locked in through 2026 on a $24.5 million extension signed last offseason.

Yet, New Orleans said no. Kamara told GM Mickey Loomis he wants to stay with the only team he’s played for in nine years.

Saints Have a Decision To Make With the Trade Deadline Approaching

With three weeks until the trade deadline, playoff teams might offer better deals for Kamara’s veteran skills. Rapoport also noted interest in wide receiver Rashid Shaheed and defensive end Carl Granderson. GM Loomis faces tough choices, and it’s either; trade players for future assets or keep fan favorites like Kamara as the Saints‘ season slips further away from them.
