2023 Halle champ battles 2020 Olympics silver medalist.
In a bid to continue his dream run at the 2025 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, 2023 champion Alexander Bublik faces Karen Khachanov of Russia on OWL Arena. The duo will play out a heavy-hitting semifinal on Saturday to determine who enters the summit clash – to face either Alexander Zverev or Daniil Medvedev.
Whenever the Halle Open comes along, there seems to be an extra gear that kicks into Alexander Bublik. The World No. 45 has been serving extremely well this week, and constructed a masterful performance to outclass top seed Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16. Outside of the Challenger Tour, Bublik’s only noteworthy outing was at Roland Garros 2025 – where he reached the QF. His record this year stands at 14-14.
Karen Khachanov has kept a low-key profile at Halle this year, and quietly made his way to the final four. The No. 8 seed is yet to face a fellow seeded player at the tournament – but Bublik is playing like one so far. With an 18-14 record in 2025, the 29-year-old is vying for his first title of this campaign (so is Bublik).
Karen Khachanov leads the head to head against Alexander Bublik 1-0.
The only meeting between the two players was five years ago – at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters. In the Round of 64 encounter, Khachanov managed to pull off a straight sets victory. Saturday will be their first contest on grass.

There is no doubt that both players will look to protect their service games as the first priority. Bublik is likely to get the crowd involved in order to ride a wave of momentum. Meanwhile, Khachanov needs to slow the game down and prevent giving the Kazakh entertainer too much pace to work with. Return games will be of pivotal importance.
Prediction: Alexander Bublik in three sets.
