Alexander Bublik vs. Francisco Comesana Preview, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Eastbourne Open 2025 Round-1

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Bublik regained the Halle Open crown last week.

Fresh off his grand success in Halle, Alexander Bublik returns to action at the 2025 Lexus Eastbourne Open on Tuesday. The Kazakhstani powerhouse takes on Francisco Comesana of Argentina to kick off his bid for another grass court trophy before Wimbledon. This will be the first meeting between these two players on the ATP Tour.

Alexander Bublik vs Francisco Comesana Match Preview

After a horrific start to his 2025 campaign, Alexander Bublik had an overnight transformation. Starting with Madrid where the World No. 30 had a Round of 16 finish, he then reached a maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros and followed it up with a championship run in Halle.

Bublik thrives on entertaining crowds and pulling the unthinkable out of his magician’s hat. Having admitted that he was thinking about quitting the sport last year, the Kazakh’s improved 16-14 record spells hope for the second half of 2025. With a good outing at Eastbourne, the 28-year-old has a shot to earn a good seeding at Wimbledon.

On the other hand, Francisco Comesana has more losses (11) than wins (9) this year. Apart from a semifinal performance in Rio, the Argentine has failed to wrack up any solid outings so far. He is currently ranked No. 65 in the world – five spots below a potential career-high. Comesana has an aggressive style of play dominated by grind and spin. His win against the likes of Andrey Rublev at Wimbledon last year is an example of his grass court prowess.

Alexander Bublik vs Francisco Comesana ATP Eastbourne Open 2025 Prediction

The standout factor for Bublik’s recent success has been a shift in mentality. Although he continues to pull out the trick shots and nonchalant baseline attacks, the Kazakh has a more calculated approach of late. Comesana must aim to attack the Bublik backhand, and pounce on the weak second serves. He will also need to stay on his toes to counter the drop shots of his 6’5” opponent. However, the signs are ominous for him.

Prediction: Alexander Bublik in straight sets.
