Like during the past NHL Season, the quest for the record will be something to follow in D.C. Alex Ovechkin is the only active player to be able to get that “once-thought” intouchable record.
In that chase, Ovechkin has all the support from “The Great One” :
“It’s great,” Ovechkin told NHL.com last week. “Even when I have a slump, he will sometimes text me and say, ‘Don’t worry about it. It will come.’ He’s on my side.”
last year, Ovechkin has scored his lowest total in his career while playing a full 82 games slate. In 13 of his 19 seasons as a professional, he has scored at least 41 goals.
Reaching that total would not give him the record but he will be so close to get it.
“Obviously, it’s still 42 goals,” he said before this season. “I’m not getting younger, I’m getting older, but the most important thing is to stay healthy and do my job. I try to score goals, try to create, play physical and the most important thing is win another Cup. It’s not about the record.”
