Against all odds, an unranked Commodores defeated the top-ranked Alabama team on Saturday.
Alabama vs Vanderbilt: Picture this: An inexperienced expansion team like the Vancouver Grizzlies thrashing Michael Jordan’s unstoppable Chicago Bulls in 1996. Or the 2017 Cleveland Browns defeating Tom Brady’s New England Patriots. Hard to imagine, right? Yet something just as unthinkable happened on Saturday when a resilient Vanderbilt Commodores stunned the Alabama team in college football.
It wasn’t so sweet home Alabama for the World No.1 after they lost to a gritty Vanderbilt 40-35. This was Alabama’s first loss to Vandys in 4 decades. Their last defeat against the unranked Vanderbilt came in 1984. Quarterback Diego Pavia was the star for the Commodores, finishing with 16 completions on 20 pass attempts for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

After leading an unranked Vanderbilt to a historic win against Alabama, an emotional Clark Lea credited his team and said that his team’s win was not unexpected.
“We expected to win that game,” Lea said. “That’s not shocking to me. You know, I was going to be emotional no matter what, because it’s a big win, and to capture that stadium … just a picture in my mind of what the dream is. That is the dream. That’s why I came here. It’s what I came here to do.”
“A great night for our program, and one that we’ve worked really hard to make happen. So we’ve been emotional to this very point. Of course, right when I get in front of you guys, I’m going to get emotional.”
