Some of the best teams across the globe will conjoin on the big stage, as the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is set to kick off on June 15 in the United States of America. There are 32 teams from six confederations – battling it out for club supremacy. While Pep Guardiola’s mighty Manchester City are the defending champions, Real Madrid have won the most trophies (5) at this event. Among the teams tagged as an outer favourite, is Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Al Hilal is a Riyadh-based setup in the Saudi Pro League, and only one of three teams to have participated in every season of the league since its inception. They are the most illustrious team in Asia – capturing 70 championships in total. In 2025, Al Hilal conceded the league title to national rivals Al-Ittihad.

Although it was a close race at one point, Al Hilal failed to keep up with Al-Ittihad in the title race. Led by star attacker Karim Benzema – who was crowned Player of the Season after garnering 21 goals and 9 assists for the Jeddah club – Al-Ittihad gave their trailers no chance of catching up. As a result, 2022 Club World Cup runners-up Al Hilal will look to go one step further to add some silverware in their cabinet.

Yassine Bounou:

The 34-year-old goalkeeper is one of the keys to Al Hilal’s defensive third performing well. Having made a name for himself as a world class shot-stopper with Sevilla and Morocco, Bounou is an extremely reliable asset for the Blue Waves.

Kalidou Koulibaly:

Coming to the defenders, Koulibaly has been rock solid while representing the men in blue for an extended period. The ex-Chelsea man had a phenomenal outing in a recent friendly against Thomas Tuchel’s England too. With 60 appearances in the Saudi Pro League, he is undoubtedly one of the first names on Al Hilal’s team sheet.

Salem Al-Dawsari:

The skipper has spent his entire senior career at Al Hilal, and continues to be a proven match winner. With 80 goals for the club including 15 goals and 15 assists in this year’s league, Al-Dawsari work on the left flank is second to none.

Aleksandar Mitrovic:

Mitrovic acts as a poacher for Za’eem, connecting with the midfield when required and finishing off chances in the box. He joined Al Hilal in 2023, and already has 47 goals in just 51 appearances in the Arabian top flight. Mitrovic’s contributions internationally are not to be overlooked either – he most recently scored a hat-trick in Serbia’s World Cup Qualifiers win over Andorra.

Al Hilal New Players Joined

The Saudi Arabian giants will definitely make big moves in the market, considering their shock defeat in the league. In the 2024-25 campaign, Al Hilal completed several new signings. Manchester City and FC Barcelona’s trusted full-back Joao Cancelo was acquired by the Blue Waves for €25 million. They also splashed €29 million to sign left-back Moteb Al-Harbi from Al-Shabab.

When it comes to bolstering the attack, former Benfica forward Marcos Leonardo joined Al Hilal in the 2024-25 season. The 21-year-old was signed for a massive €40 million price tag. Young right winger Kaio Cesar also joined the setup for €9 million from Portugal.
