AC Milan Exploring Sensational Thiago Silva Return To Reinforce Defence

As the January transfer window approaches, AC Milan are turning their attention to a growing need at the back. AC Milan are targeting veteran defender Thiago Silva. With Matteo Gabbia, Fikayo Tomori and Strahinja Pavlovic forming a solid core, and Koni De Winter acting as the primary backup, the Rossoneri still find themselves one defender short. Youngster David Odogu has barely featured, with only a few Coppa Italia minutes to his name. Odogu is not yet considered ready for a consistent first-team role by head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

That shortage has pushed Milan’s management toward a surprising solution which is to bring Thiago Silva back to San Siro. According to reports from Italy and Brazil, internal discussions at Casa Milan have been ongoing for weeks regarding a possible return for the 41-year-old centre-back. Silva is currently at Fluminense and remains under contract until June 2026. Notably, Silva is said to be open to one final European chapter. Crucially for Milan, his salary would not significantly strain the club’s budget, making the move financially feasible.

Massimiliano Allegri To Reunite With Thiago Silva at AC Milan

The Rossoneri have explored other defensive targets, including Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. However, neither negotiation has produced meaningful progress. With limited options, Silva has emerged as a realistic and attractive alternative. A reunion would also reconnect Silva with Massimiliano Allegri, the manager under whom he flourished in the early 2010s.

At present, Tomori is the oldest regular starter in the backline at just 27. As a result, Allegri has identified the need for veteran leadership to shore up AC Milan’s defence. Reports suggest Milan are considering offering Silva an initial six-month contract until June 2026, with the option to extend for another season depending on performance. With veterans like Luka Modric proving that age does not necessarily diminish top-level impact, the idea of Silva adding experience to Milan’s defence is gaining traction.
