Jayden Daniels has emerged as a strong leader in the Washington Commanders’ locker room as well as on the field. The second-year quarterback who had an extremely impressive rookie season last year is not resting on his laurels as he looks to do better in the upcoming season.

Generally speaking, a team’s starting quarterback is always among the commanding voices on a roster, but Daniels seems to be taking his role to another level.

Expecting nothing but the best from teammates is one thing, but holding yourself to high standards as an example is the mark of a true leader. News from the Commanders’ camp is just that, Jayden Daniels is their true leader.

How Jayden Daniels Is Holding the team accountable

With training camp now in week 2 and the preseason games just around the corner, Daniels is leaving no stone unturned. He has taken it upon himself to ensure nobody is cut any slack during the practice sessions, and if players are not performing up to standard, he is sure to let them know.

Running back Austin Ekeler, one of Daniels’ teammates, even praised his quarterback for the leadership he is bringing to the team. Ekeler narrated an incident where Daniels asked one teammate to leave the huddle after he false-started. Ekeler also said that he is setting the standard for everyone else to follow suit.

“He’s holding the standard, letting everyone know this is how we play. If you’re not playing at this level, you can’t be on the field.”

Daniels also chimed in during his presser as he informed the media that he is preaching what he is teaching, as he also looks up to fellow veterans such as Zach Ertz to hold him accountable for his mistakes.

“It’s a standard that we set on the offensive side, and I’m the one that’s got to uphold the standard. And if guys are false-starting, the next guy up, stuff like that. Even for me, it’s like holding myself accountable if I mess up. I look to Zach. I’ll look to guys like that to hold me accountable too.”

Jayden Daniels’ Rookie Season Success

Last year, Daniels entered his rookie season in the NFL with plenty of expectations on his shoulders. However, it is safe to say that he outdid what was expected of him.

Quite interestingly, it was a wonder to watch him play at the NFL level with such poise and composure when, at the same time, Caleb Williams was struggling so much in Chicago.

At the end, winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was nearly a given, but what was most interesting of all was how he nearly led his team all the way to the Super Bowl in his first season as a professional. It is perhaps that unfinished business that is propelling Daniels to improve further ahead of the 2025 season.
