Ja Morant Injury Update: Mild Ankle Sprain Won’t Impact Grizzlies Season Opener

Ja Morant's ankle injury won't affect his season debut with the Grizzlies

Ja Morant’s recent ankle injury, sustained during a preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks, fortunately appears to be mild.

The incident occurred as Morant rolled his right ankle while defending in transition. He briefly returned to the game but ultimately exited as a precaution.

Subsequent medical evaluations by the Memphis Grizzlies confirmed that he had suffered a mild sprain, and he is expected to recover without missing any regular-season games, although his participation in remaining preseason games remains uncertain.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins expressed optimism, indicating that Morant’s injury won’t delay his start to the 2024-25 season.

However, given the team’s recent struggles with injuries and Morant’s importance as a core playmaker, the team plans to approach his recovery conservatively.

Last season, Memphis led the league in injury-affected games, underlining the need for cautious management of Morant’s health going forward

What’s next for Ja Morant ?

With 4 games left to play in the pre-season, Ja Morant will probably sat until the season opener against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday October 23.

Last season, Ja Morant averaged 25.1 points and 8.1 assists per game during the nine games he played before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury.
