South Korean football icon Son Heung-min has officially signed with Los Angeles FC from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The skillful attacker completed a sensational move that sets a new Major League Soccer transfer record. LAFC paid over £20 million to secure the 33-year-old forward, marking a pivotal moment both for the club and the league.

Son was unveiled on Wednesday at BMO Stadium, where his image already graced the banners and video boards around the ground. The move brings an end to Son’s decade-long stay in North London, where he became a legend, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances for Spurs. He also captained the club to a Europa League triumph over Manchester United in May, which was Tottenham’s first trophy in 17 years.

Son Heung-min admitted that a move to Los Angeles FC was not his “first choice” but a chat with LAFC co-president John Thorrington changed his heart. Son said on Wednesday,

“If I’m honest, it was not my first choice. But the first call I had with John [Thorrington] after my season finished, he changed my mind, changed my heart, my brain. He showed me the destination where I should be. Now I’m here, I’m more than happy, I’m so excited.”

Son Reunites With Former Spurs Teammate Hugo Lloris

Son now reunites with his former Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris at LAFC, who currently sit sixth in the Western Conference. He watched from the stands as his new team edged Tigres UANL 2-1 in the Leagues Cup on Tuesday night. Son revealed that he made his decision to depart Tottenham a while ago but only told a few players.

Meanwhile, New Spurs manager Thomas Frank came to know about Son’s decision ahead of their first pre-season game at Reading earlier this month. Son made his final appearance for Tottenham in a 1-1 pre-season friendly against Newcastle on Sunday.
