Dallas Wings Rookie Paige Bueckers Shares Her ‘Welcome to the W’ Moment

Having played 19 games for Dallas, the 23-year-old is averaging 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.

Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers revealed the moment she realized she made it to the WNBA. Like every player, Bueckers also had a moment when it truly hit her that she is now a pro player. The No. 1 overall pick revealed that the moment came during a preseason game, when the Wings were clashing against the Las Vegas Aces. Bueckers sat down with ESPN’s Elle Duncan, where she shared her ‘welcome to the W moment.’

Bueckers said that the moment it hit her was during preseason when she took a shoulder to the gut from Jackie Young of the Aces. The Wings All-Star said, “It was actually during preseason, I caught a Jackie Young shoulder check to the gut, and I just bent over. I had to catch my breath for a second. Everyone was like, ‘yo, you good,’ and I was ‘Yeah I just need a second. She’s pretty strong.”

Bueckers, who ended her college career with a championship, transitioned seamlessly in the WNBA. Having played 19 games for Dallas, the 23-year-old is averaging 18.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. She is shooting 32.3% from the three-point line and 84% from the free-throw line. Bueckers has played a little over 34 minutes per game.

The Dallas Wings guard scripted history as the Golden State Valkyries defeated them 86-76 on Friday. Just after tying Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark as the fastest player to reach 300 points and 100 career assists in the history of the league, Bueckers added another feather to her hat. As she finished the game with 17 points, one rebound, and six assists, Bueckers became the fastest player in the history of the league to reach 350 points and at least 100 assists.

In addition, she is also the first player to reach the mark in the first 20 games of her career. Talking about the Wings, they are currently seated at the 12th spot with seven wins and 18 defeats. In their upcoming game, they will lock horns with the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, July 27, at home.
