Daniil Medvedev vs Wu Yibing Head-to-Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Citi DC Open 2025 Round of 16

Devavrat Kulkarni

Wu Yibing has played phenomenal tennis so far, but Medvedev will pose a bigger hurdle to overcome

The round of 16 action from the ATP Citi DC Open will start today with the number 8 seed Daniil Medvedev taking the court first against Wu Yibing. The winner of this match will make their way to the quarterfinals, where they will play either Dan Evans or Corentin Moutet.

Heading into this matchup, Medvedev has been having a so-so season, especially considering how well he was playing until last year. With no titles to his name, and just the one final appearance in 2025, the Russian has hit a rough patch of form.

He is coming off a three-set win over Riley Opelka in the previous round. He didn’t serve particularly well, hitting 6 double faults, but he managed to win a high 87% of points on his first serve. With plenty of opportunities to break, the Russian managed just 3 from 13 chances. However, the 51 unforced errors from his opponent were a crucial factor in Medvedev’s win.

As for Wu, he has reached the round of 16 after two wins in the qualifying round, followed by victories over Gael Monfils and Alexei Popyrin in rounds one and two, respectively. The Chinese player does not have much experience at this level, and that could be a big factor in his match today.

Daniil Medvedev vs Wu Yibing Head-to-Head Record

The pair has only met once before, and that too was nearly three years ago. Medvedev leads the head-to-head 1-0 after his win at the 2022 US Open, but the Russian was the world number one back then and in sublime form.

Wu has played well thus far, and with a struggling Medvedev on the other side of the court, the Chinese has a good chance at equaling the head-to-head with a win today.

Daniil Medvedev vs Wu Yibing ATP Citi DC Open 2025 Prediction

On paper, this is ideally a mismatch in terms of quality. The Russian is the superior player over his younger counterpart. That said, Medvedev hasn’t really clicked this year and has made multiple early exits. While his consistency is lacking, he did manage to dig deep and came from behind in the previous round.

Frankly speaking, Wu does not have the game to match the Russian, but the Chinese player has shown his grit and talent with wins over Moutet, Monfils, and Popyrin. If he serves well enough and lands his powerful strokes, he may have a chance, but a win seems less likely.
