Stefanos Tsitsipas decided to part ways with his coach Goran Ivanisevic and made an official statement on the partnership. Ivanisevic had a successful run of over five years with Novak Djokovic but ended the spell with Tsitsipas after less than two months. The 26-year-old had a first-round exit in the Wimbledon after forcing a walkover win to Valentin Royer.

The Greek ace confirmed the news in a statement that he will not work with the Croatian coach. Tsitsipas thanked Ivanisevic for his efforts during their time together. The 2023 Australian Open runner-up wished Ivanisevic the best and joined hands with his father for upcoming US Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, Goran Ivanisevic Decide to Part Ways After Less Than Two Months

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ decision came after Goran Ivanisevic’s brutal comments about the Greek No. 1 a few weeks ago. The Croatian was not happy with Tsitsipas’ attitude. Ivanisevic’s comments influenced the 26-year-old tennis star to break down the partnership with the coach.

“It’s simple and it’s not easy,” Goran Ivanisevic earlier spoke to Sport Klub. “I’ve talked to him many times. If he solves some things outside of tennis, then he has a chance and he’ll return to where he belongs, because he’s too good a player to be out of the top 10.

“He wants to, but he doesn’t do anything. All, ‘I want, I want’, but I don’t see any progress. I was shocked, I’ve never seen a more unprepared player in my life. With this knee, I’m three times more prepared than him. This is really bad.”

The world No. 29 and the 2023 Australian Open runner-up started the partnership with Ivanisevic as his coach at the start of the grass-court season. Tsitsipas had a poor clay-court campaign, including a second-round exit at Roland Garros. The partnership couldn’t sustain longer and the Greek No. 1 decided to move on from his Croatian coach.

“Working with Goran Ivanisevic was a brief but intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey. I’m thankful for the time, effort, and energy he dedicated to me and my team. As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran – not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is a person. I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas will no aim for a solid return at the US Open next month. He recently had a breakup with Paula Badosa and both have been pulled out from the mixed doubles event. As per reports, the Greek ace will now work with his father for upcoming Grand Slam and later, find a new coach.
