Manchester City are thought to be the frontrunners as Pep Guardiola continues to search for a long-term solution at right-back.
Manchester City and Aston Villa are among the clubs monitoring Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer. The Netherlands international enjoyed the best season of his career in 2024/25, producing 11 goals and 9 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
Despite Dumfries’ impressive attacking output, Inter endured a frustrating campaign as they finished second in Serie A, the Champions League, and the Italian Super Cup. With tensions reportedly brewing behind the scenes, a summer exit is being strongly considered. Notably, the tension was evident by Dumfries’ support of Hakan Calhanoglu amid a dressing-room dispute with Lautaro Martinez.
According to reports, it has been learnt that Dumfries is potentially available at a bargain price until July 31. Dumfries’ current contract with Inter runs until June 2028 and includes a release clause of €25 million (£21 million), which has attracted the interest of several top European clubs. However, the mentioned clause expires at the end of July, after which Inter will be free to demand a higher fee for the right-back.
Manchester City are thought to be the most proactive suitor as Pep Guardiola continues to search for a long-term solution at right-back following Kyle Walker’s departure. Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis shared duties on the flank last season but struggled for consistency. Dumfries’ physicality and attacking output make him an ideal candidate to strengthen City’s defensive options.

Aston Villa, too, have emerged as a contender. Journalist Nicolo Schira reported that Unai Emery’s side are weighing up a move as they are keen to bolster their squad and view Dumfries’ experience and versatility as an ideal fit. Barcelona are also interesting but the Catalans are reportedly less aggressive in their pursuit due to their financial constraints.
