Sabrina Ionescu Clinches 3-Point Title Again, Shares Winnings With Rookie Citron, SI20 Foundation

The New York Liberty star showed her elite shooting once again and followed it up with a selfless act

Sabrina Ionescu had another spectacular night winning the WNBA three-point contest. She beat some top names from the league and took home a significant prize money. She outshot Allisha Gray, Sonia Citron, and Lexie Hull to clinch the title once again.

Ionescu is widely recognized for her three-point shooting skills, a trait she even showcased against Steph Curry at an NBA All-Star Weekend, couple of years ago.

Ionescu also won the three-point challenge in 2023 by producing historic 37 points. To this day, her 37 holds record in NBA as well as the WNBA. The New York Liberty star won the award once again on Friday night producing 30 points.

Her 30-point performance stood far above the rest, leaving other contestants trailing by a wide margin. She celebrated the win with her Liberty teammate Natasha Cloud who went on to win the WNBA Skills Challenge. Sabrina Ionescu won flat $60,000 while Cloud won $57,765.

Ionescu Shares Prize With Rookie Star

Sabrina Ionescu suggested that she will not take even a penny from the prize money. Instead, she gave half the amount to Sonia Citron, praising her courage to compete on such a big stage. She said, “I think I have a limit on Venmo, so I got to figure out how to exactly do that. I’ve got to pick up the check, maybe just cut it in half.”

Ionescu was impressed with Citron as she posted 19 points in the first round of the three-point challenge. She was the only rookie player to take part in the WNBA All-star events this season. Sabrina Ionescu liked that and hence gave away half of her winning amount to the Mystics player.

The remaining half has been pledged to her SI20 Foundation, which promotes sports access for youth from all backgrounds. Fans and players alike praised Ionescu for uplifting rookies like Citron and using her platform for a meaningful cause.
