Blues Eye Villa’s Rising Star to Strengthen Squad

Chelsea following their Club World Cup 2025 triumph have shifted focus on the next season. Wanting the squad strengthening, Enzo Mareaca has already made statement signings like Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in June 2025.

In the latest updates, the Italian manager has eyes on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers to add to the midfield. Rogers is their top transfer target, valued at £80m or more as Chelsea has already spent over £130m on forwards this season.

Why a Nicolas Jackson Swap Deal Is Off the Table

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen on reuniting with Nicolas Jackson as per reports. However, they prefer separate transfers to comply with Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.

Villa may also need to sell Rogers to avoid breaching financial rules, especially after failing to qualify for the Champions League. Both clubs face financial pressure as Chelsea must balance their books to register new players for the Champions League.

The transfer saga is likely to extend into August as both clubs manage their finances. However, Maresca has shown interest in Rogers multiple times as he expects to sign the Englishman.

Aston Villa’s Rising Star: Morgan Rogers’ Rise

Made his senior debut for West Brom on February 6, 2019, marking his first professional appearance at age 16. In 2019, Rogers was signed by Manchester City, where he developed in their elite academy. However, he struggled to break into the first team. After a few loan spells and one year at Middlesbrough, Rogers joined Aston Villa in February 2024.

Rogers had a solid PL 2024/25 season, playing in 37 matches and starting each one. He has scored 8 goals, aligning closely with his expected goals of 6.58, and averages 0.2 goals per game. Rogers’ attacking play includes 1.5 shots per game, with 0.5 on target, though he has missed 11 big chances.

Additionally, Rogers provided 10 assists and created 16 key opportunities being one of Villa’s top performers in the 2024/25 season. These numbers for a midfielder have sparked interest from many clubs as Chelsea look like the most intriguing option as things stand.
