As Miami climbed to fifth in the Eastern Conference, Messi’s unmatched consistency is proving pivotal in Inter Miami's playoff push this season.

Lionel Messi continues to redefine greatness in MLS. On Wednesday evening, Messi became the first player in MLS history to score multiple goals in four consecutive matches. The Argentine maestro achieved this rare feat by netting twice in Inter Miami’s 2-1 win over the New England Revolution.

The 38-year-old opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a precise left-footed finish inside the box. Defender Tanner Beason misplayed a header and Messi capitalized on the mistake by scoring on the half-volley. He then doubled the lead just 11 minutes later as he curled in a clinical strike after a perfectly weighted through ball from Sergio Busquets. Although Carles Gil pulled one back for New England in the 79th minute, Miami held on to secure three crucial points.

Lionel Messi’s 4th Straight Multi-Goal Match

Messi’s historic run began in May, with braces against Montreal and Columbus, before he competed at the FIFA Club World Cup with Inter Miami. After returning from the tournament, he scored another double in a 4-1 win over Montreal, followed by his two goals against New England. His latest brace took his tally to 14 goals in 15 MLS matches this season.

Miami head coach Javier Mascherano said after the game,

“Obviously Leo is a special player. For me is the best player that has played this sport in history. So it’s unbelievable because how he continues doing things that maybe many, many years ago we thought that maybe we couldn’t see at this stage, no?”

Messi’s latest milestone adds to his growing list of MLS records, which include most assists in a single game (five) and most goal contributions in a match (six), both set during a 6-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls last May. His 58 goal contributions are also a record for Inter Miami.

As Miami climbed to fifth in the Eastern Conference, Messi’s unmatched consistency is proving pivotal in Inter Miami’s playoff push this season.
