A semifinal clash between two power hitters of the game
Wimbledon 2025 is now approaching the business end of the tournament, and with it, we are down to the final few players left in the draw. In this semifinal matchup, world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka takes on the thirteenth seed, Amanda Anisimova. The winner books her spot in the final, where she will get the chance to fight it out for the Venus Rosewater Dish.
Heading into this match, Sabalenka is coming off a scare from her quarterfinal victory. Laura Siegemund nearly pulled off an upset, using the slice very well to slow down the pace of the game. However, apart from that little hiccup, the Belarusian has cruised through the tournament.

As for Anisimova, she, too, is enjoying a purple patch of form during the grass-court season. The American reached the final at Queens and the quarterfinals at Berlin before her current run at SW19.
Throughout the tournament, Anisimova has struggled to keep her double faults in check, and that could be a big factor at crucial points of the match against Sabalenka. However, she has played quite well when returning.
Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova are no strangers to one another’s games. They have already met 8 times on tour before their semifinal clash at Wimbledon. At the moment, Anisimova holds a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head.
The pair’s rivalry started in 2019 at the Australian Open, where the American won in straight sets. She then took a 4-0 lead until Sabalenka flipped the script at the 2022 Italian Open. This will, however, be the pair’s first match on grass, having contested all their previous matches on hard and clay courts.

Sabalenka has generally been in fine form this year, which is backed up by her titles and overall record. Up until her last match, she had won in straight sets, and while it was not easy, she managed to play her best tennis when it mattered the most.
But some cracks in her game were seen in her quarterfinal win over Siegemund as the German’s slices made life uneasy for the number one seed. Anisimova can look to use a similar tactic, but her game is more power-based, which means she will have to be on point against Sablenka.
Even though the American enjoys a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head, Sabalenka has won three of their past four meetings. This match has all the makings of being another close one, but the quicker surface of grass just may favor the three-time major winner.
