Luka Modric Set To Join AC Milan After Club World Cup

With ambitions of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Modric is eager to continue competing at the highest level.

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Luka Modric will join AC Milan after wrapping up his final tournament with Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup. Modric has featured as a substitute five times for Real during the Club World Cup, including in the 3-2 quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund.

That victory secured a semi-final showdown against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner leaves Madrid with an illustrious record of 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns. Signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 under Jose Mourinho, Modric has been the heartbeat of Real Madrid’s midfield for over a decade.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, his graceful style and competitiveness made him a fan favorite at Santiago Bernabeu. The Croatian announced in May that he would end his 13-year spell at Real Madrid following the competition in the United States.

Modric To Sign One-Year Contract With AC Milan

Modric is reportedly set to sign a one-year contract with AC Milan, which includes an option for a further year extension. The deal will see the Croatian earn a net salary of around €3.5 million ($4 million) per season, plus additional performance-related bonuses.

Under Allegri, Milan are looking to reshape their squad following the departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City. Meanwhile, left-back Theo Hernandez will join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. Speaking in his first press conference since returning for a second stint at Milan, Allegri confirmed the move in his first news conference. He said,

“Modric will arrive in August. He is an extraordinary player.”

With ambitions of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Modric is eager to continue competing at the highest level. AC Milan will provide him that platform as they look to bounce back from an underwhelming season that saw them finish eighth in Serie A.

Real Madrid will face PSG in their Club World Cup semi-final on Wednesday, with the final set for Sunday, July 13. As a result, a defeat against PSG could mark the end of Modric’s legendary chapter before a new challenge begins in Milan’s iconic red and black.
