OKC Thunder Lock In Shai Gilgeous-Alexander With Record-Breaking Contract Extension, Hand a $285M Supermax Gamble

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has become the highest-paid player in NBA history. He has agreed to a massive contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This comes after a fabulous MVP season coupled with the NBA Title.

The 26-year-old led his side to the pinnacle through some clutch performances. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 32.9 PPG, 6.3 APG, and 5.1 RPG in the regular season. He carried that dominant form into the NBA Playoffs, averaging 30 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.4 rebounds.

Shai’s clutch play proved decisive during the Denver Nuggets series in the Western Conference semifinals. That Western Conference semifinals series went to Game 7, where clutch Thunder plays secured the hard-fought win.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued his MVP level performances in the WCF Finals and the NBA Finals as well. He won both the MVP awards creating another unique record. SGA averaged 30.3 PPG, 5.6 APG, 4.6 RPG against the Indiana Pacers.

SGA Becomes NBA’s Top-paid Player

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has agreed to sign a four year contract worth $285 million. This super max contract from OKC Thunder is the most expensive in the history of the league. On an average, SGA is set to earn $71.25 million annually.

The deal marks a massive upgrade over SGA’s current rookie extension signed back in 2022. The five year deal was worth $179 million averaging an annual income of $35.8 million.

His current contract is going to run till the next season and the new super max contract will come into effect from the 2027-28 season. In that particular season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will earn $63.7 million. In his final year (2031–32), SGA is set to earn a staggering $78.9 million.

The OKC Thunder are banking on the 26-year-old to lead the roster for multiple glories in the coming seasons. The pressure will remain high on SGA given the nature of his new deal.
