Thomas Muller Addresses Inter Miami Links Ahead of Bayern Munich Exit

Once a mainstay in Bayern’s starting XI, Muller has seen his role diminish significantly over the past two seasons.

Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller has opened up on rumours linking him with a move to Inter Miami as he prepares to leave the German giants this summer. The 35-year-old’s contract expires at the end of June. The veteran attacker will depart Bayern as a free agent after 25 years of service.

Muller’s departure will bring an end to a remarkable chapter with his boyhood club. With the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup taking place in the United States, speculation over Muller’s future has grown. Reports have emerged recently suggesting a potential MLS move for the German. Muller has been widely linked with a move to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami this summer.

I Wouldn’t Object to Playing With Messi: Muller

Thomas Muller revealed about his future plans ahead of his exit from Bayern Munich. He admitted that he would have no problem playing alongside Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. However, Muller has downplayed the rumours. The German clarified that he does not have an offer in place and is currently not planning on a move to Inter Miami.

Speaking to DAZN, Muller said,

“Basically, I wouldn’t object to playing with Messi , but I don’t have any direct contact with Miami right now. Given my current physical condition, I’d like to continue playing because this game of football is simply fun, but maybe I’ll actually retire. Anything is still possible, and I’m not stressing about it. The overall package has to be right. More distant or exotic countries have an advantage over the domestic league.”

On Sunday, PSG cruised past Inter Miami with a comprehensive 4-0 victory, securing their place in the last eight. Later in the day, Bayern Munich joined them by winning a pulsating tie 4-2 against Brazil’s Flamengo. The 2014 World Cup winner could feature for Bayern Munich one final time in their Club World Cup quarterfinal clash against PSG on Saturday.

The versatile attacker has left his mark as one of the club’s greatest-ever goalscorers, sitting third on Bayern’s all-time goal list with 250 goals, only behind Gerd Muller (565) and Robert Lewandowski (344).

Muller scored his 250th goal for the club in Bayern’s opening game of the Club World Cup 2025. They thrashed Auckland City 10-0 at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati and broke two records along the way. The German giants registered the tournament’s largest-ever margin of win and also became the first team to score double digits in a single Club World Cup match.
