Eala defeated Ostapenko at the Miami Open 2025.
Filipino sensation Alexandra Eala and former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko will meet anew at the 2025 Lexus Eastbourne Open to renew their rivalry. This high intensity Round of 16 clash will be played on Court-1 to determine who enters the last eight stage. The winner of this match will face either Dayana Yastremska or Francesca Jones in the quarterfinals.
Jelena Ostapenko is the official pocket dynamite of the WTA circuit. While inconsistency has been a prolonged issue, her explosions are other-worldly. She has also been excelling on the doubles circuit, which has improved her net game considerably. After a poor start to the year, Ostapenko reached the final in Doha. The 28-year-old then produced a run for the ages when she won the Stuttgart Open championship – beating Navarro, Swiatek and Sabalenka en route to the trophy.
Although she has a slightly better success rate (57%) in comparison to Ostapenko (55.5%) coming into this match, Alexandra Eala has yet to taste success on the professional circuit. The 20-year-old burst onto the scene by becoming the highest ranked Filipino player in WTA history this year. It all started with an unbelievable semifinal run in Miami – where she beat Swiatek, Keys and Ostapenko herself. Eala has come through qualifying at Eastbourne this week.

The No. 3 seed will back her instincts and hit fearlessly through the line on Wednesday. Whether or not Eala can weather the storm and match Ostapenko from the back of the court, remains to be seen.
