Why There Is No Better Time for Josh Allen to Finally Lead the Bills to a Super Bowl?

Devavrat Kulkarni

Josh Allen and the Bills have lost 4 times to the Chiefs in the past 5 postseasons!

Ever since Josh Allen’s second season in 2019, the Buffalo Bills have been perennial postseason contenders. They have made it to 6 straight postseason appearances while dominating the AFC East during the same time.

Yet, the Bills have continuously fallen short in the biggest games of the playoffs, only to come back stronger the following season and lose again. But there will be something different in the playoffs this time around that just may tilt the scales in their favor.

Chiefs and Bengals out of the Postseason

One of the most positive things to have happened for the AFC this season is that neither the Kansas City Chiefs nor the Cincinnati Bengals will take any part in the 2025-26 NFL postseason. Both teams have been eliminated from the playoffs, and that is a huge sigh of relief for every other team that makes the postseason from the AFC.

But more importantly, this is probably the best thing that could have happened for Josh Allen and the Bills. Going back to the 2019 season, the Bills were eliminated from the playoffs in the Wild Card round by the Houston Texans, but that was a long time ago, and the teams have changed quite a bit since then.

However, from the 2020 season onwards, the Bills have lost twice in the AFC Championship game and thrice in the Divisional round. One of those Divisional round losses came against Joe Burrow and the Bengals in 2022, whereas the other 4 losses all came against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Now, however, with both teams missing the playoffs this season, the stage is set for Allen to work his magic and finally lead the Bills to the Super Bowl.

What Makes the Bills a Strong Contender in the Postseason?

First and foremost, the man under center, quarterback Josh Allen, is their biggest asset. Not only is he the reigning MVP of the league, but he is also in the form of his life. The veteran signal caller ranks in the top ten in passing yards, has a 70% completion rate, and has thrown 25 touchdowns, while running in for another 12 touchdowns.

Allen is once again leading the team from the front, making excellent use of the weapons he has at his disposal and finding ways to overcome adversity when the going gets tough. But he hasn’t had to do it all himself.

In fact, the Bills are getting plenty of support in the run game as well. Running back James Cook has risen to become the perfect complementary piece in the backfield. He is currently second in the league with 1,415 rushing yards and is averaging 101.1 yards per game, with an average of 5.2 yards per carry.

A decent receiving core, as well as a top-three pass defense and a middle-of-the-pack scoring defense, are all of the other contributing factors to their overall chances at a deep playoff run once again. So, the main question at hand is whether or not the Bills can finally take the next step and go to the Super Bowl now that the Chiefs and Bengals are no longer a threat.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
